Corticeira Amorim, a world leader in cork processing, has once again gained international recognition with its latest technological development: Bee W®, an innovative beeswax-based coating for natural cork stoppers. This product was distinguished with the “Technological Innovation” award within the Mejoras e Innovaciones Tecnológicas competition, whose award ceremony will take place on February 13, during ENOMAQ 2025, in Zaragoza, Spain.
Nature and technology united
Bee W® is a revolutionary solution that combines biopolymers with natural cork, raising the standards of sustainability and technical performance of corks. Inspired by the natural synergy between cork and beeswax, the coating ensures a consistent and controlled oxygen ingress rate, a determining factor in preserving the flavors and aromas of wine, especially in wines for storage and high quality. Furthermore, the product optimizes the preservation of sulfur dioxide and ensures sensory neutrality, keeping intact the premium image associated with cork stoppers.
According to António Rios de Amorim, president and CEO of Corticeira Amorim, this distinction “reflects the continued dedication to innovation and sustainability, core values of the company”. The company leader also highlights that Bee W® is “a perfect example of the union between the best of nature and advanced technology”.
Recognition on the international stage
ENOMAQ, the international trade fair of reference for the wine, olive oil and beer sectors, is a privileged platform for the presentation of technological innovations that promote sustainable development. The distinction received by Bee W® reaffirms Corticeira Amorim's commitment to sustainability, recognized as a strategic priority for the company.
With a honeycomb structure reminiscent of beeswax, cork is one of the most sustainable materials on the planet. This natural combination not only improves the technical characteristics of the stoppers but also reinforces the positive impact of cork on environmental, social and economic balance, consolidating it as one of the most iconic materials for sustainability in the 21st century.
Pioneering spirit and commitment to excellence
Founded in 1870, Corticeira Amorim is an example of resilience and innovation. With operations in more than 100 countries, the company recorded consolidated sales of 986 million euros in 2023, of which 75.9% resulted from the production of 5.6 billion corks.
Throughout its more than 150 years of history, the company has continually invested in research and development, promoting innovative solutions for diverse sectors, from winemaking to aerospace.
The Bee W® distinction is further proof of Corticeira Amorim's commitment to the future, through the creation of technological solutions that respect nature and enhance the consumer experience.
