“Coimbra eu teconhece bem”, the latest book by writer Fátima Veiga, is a true love letter to the city where she was born and grew up. With tenderness and vivid memory, the author describes episodes from her childhood and youth — from walks with her family in Baixa and afternoons on the tram to the unforgettable nights of Queima das Fitas and serenades at Velha Sé.
Born in Coimbra, Maria de Fátima Ferreira Veiga is a prominent figure in the Portuguese cultural scene. A professional History teacher and former Senior Technician at the Pena National Palace, she has dedicated herself to the study of Portuguese history, particularly that of the 19th century.
More than an academic, Fátima Veiga is passionate about photography and an enthusiastic organizer of cultural events, combining historical rigor with artistic sensitivity. Associated with AIP, it is part of the artistic and literary creation sector, operating from the municipality of Coimbra.
Among his published works are “Historical-Cultural Memory of Ervedal da Beira”, “The Enchanted Mountains” (in two editions), “Sintra”, “Beira Alta... naturally” and, more recently, “Coimbra I know you well”.
“The Academy, and everything it represents, is with me”, says the author, remembering the legacy of her father, a player for Académica de Coimbra, and the deep ties with the city that she considers “an immense tenderness that caresses the heart”.
As this city is classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Fátima Veiga continues to contribute to the preservation of Coimbra's memory and identity through writing and cultural promotion — becoming a true ambassador of the soul of Coimbra.
