Decree-Law No. 70-A/2021, of 6 August introduces clarifications to the exceptional regime for guaranteeing the supply of essential services (electricity, water, electronic communications, natural gas) provided for in Decree-Law No. 56 -B/2021, of July 7th.

According to the aforementioned diploma, until December 31, 2021, the supply of piped liquefied petroleum gases cannot be suspended either.

The prohibition to suspend the supply of essential services applies when motivated by unemployment, a drop in household income equal to or greater than 20% or by infection with the COVID-19 disease.

Additionally, until December 31, 2021, consumers who are unemployed or with a fall in household income equal to or greater than 20% compared to the previous month's income may request:

a) the unilateral termination of telecommunications contracts, without compensation to the


b) the temporary suspension of telecommunications contracts, without penalties or additional clauses for the consumer, resuming on January 1, 2022 or on a date to be agreed between the supplier and the consumer.

The statement of the fall in income will be defined by an Ordinance to be approved by the Government.

These measures take effect from 1 July.
